Collection of copied letters. Printers' copy of letters, made for or by John Johstone (1768-1836), with editorial annotations, for Johnstone's fourth volume of Parr's Works. Many of the originals of these letters are lost, and the 1828 publication lacks many passages found in these copies. Writers include, in addition to those listed above: Ned Routh, John Bacon (1740-1799), William Seward (1747-1799), and William Scott, Baron Stowell (1745-1836).

Samuel Parr was a Latin scholar and schoolmaster, educated at Cambridge. He served as perpetual curate in Warwickshire and during that time established a school in Stanmore, served as headmaster of Colchester and Norwich Schools, wrote essays and sermons with strong and often controversial leanings, and amassed a library of more than 10,000 books.
